This mantra vibrates at the exact frequency of the heart, where various energetic channels in the body meet. He was therefore the cause of great disturbance to the topmost devotee, Prahlāda Mahārāja, until Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva killed him. Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya is the Sanskrit mantra for the heart. Thus Hiraṇyakaśipu was the perfect representative of materialistic life. Hiraṇya means “gold,” and kaśipu means “a soft cushion or bed.” Materialistic persons always desire to make the body comfortable, and for this they require huge amounts of gold. There is an injunction that those who are not brhmaas cannot pronounce the praava mantra. This mantra is chanted by Vaiava devotees, and it begins with praava, or okra.
